#UK launches nationwide e-cigarette recycling program
To address the growing issue of disposable electronic cigarette waste, the UK Environment Agency announced on January 20, 2024, that it has partnered with several mainstream electronic cigarette brands to launch a nationwide electronic cigarette recycling program.

According to statistics, approximately 5 million disposable electronic cigarettes are discarded in the UK every week, with the majority of them entering landfills or becoming electronic waste. These products contain lithium batteries and harmful substances, posing a serious threat to the environment.

###Participate in brand participation
The first brands to participate in the recycling program include:
- Elf Bar
- Lost Mary
- Crystal Bar
- SKE Crystal
-And 12 other mainstream brands
###Recycling channels
Consumers can participate in recycling through the following channels:
1. Retail store recycling point**
-Over 5000 convenience stores and e-cigarette specialty stores nationwide
-Provide dedicated recycling bins
2. Mail collection**
-Apply for free recycling bags online
-Free postal return
3. Supermarket recycling**
-Collaborate with chain supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury's
-Set up specialized recycling points in the electronic product recycling area

The UK government has stated that it will consider:

-Imposing environmental taxes on non recyclable electronic cigarettes

##Industry response
The UK Electronic Cigarette Industry Association (UKVIA) supports this plan and calls on the government to strengthen regulation and reduce market access for non recyclable products from the source.
